Too Faced Natural Eye Palette

Goodmorning everyone. It's been a while since I came back from Madrid and aside from visiting musea and exploring the neighbourhood, I also did some shopping.
For as far as know, there are no Sephora's in Belgium and even though there was one in the Netherlands that I could have gone to, it closed pretty soon. The only option was ordering online, but I prefer buying my make-up in a store.

The first thing I got when I saw they had a Sephora here was the Too Faced Natural Eye palette. This one goes way back. I remember Blair Fowler (aka JuicyStar07) make a video using this palette when she was only 19. The hype is long over, but the palette was still on my "most wanted" list.

The packaging has changed a little bit, but the concept is still thesame. Speaking of packaging, let's take a look!

The packaging excites me so much! It's so pretty and girl, with soft pastel colours and lace print detailling.
When you open up the palette, you get to lay your eyes upon nine stunning, neutral colours. A couple shimmery ones, a couple matt ones.

This palette is so beautiful that in the beginning I was almost a little bit hesitant to use it. I did have to though, how else am I going to get swatches for this blog? Haha!
Here you go, some swatches:

Even though the colours could have been a bit more pigmented, they are quite nice in use. The colours are absolutely stunning and looks can very a lot - depending on which colours you use. The balance between warm/cool/light/dark is absolutely amazing! Love it!

I paid €36 for this palette.

A Christmas make-up tutorial!

Hello everybody! Welcome back!
I've got a make-up video for you today! If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen a snippet already, but finally, here's the full video!

I decided for the first make-up look to go with gold eyeshadow colours and some eyeliner.
Typical, classic Christmas, but so much fun! I used my Urban Decay Naked palette for this look, as well as two Essence liquid eyeliners.

Below, you can watch the video. Let me know what you think of it!
Thanks for watching!

Essence limited edition glitter eyeliner review!

Goodmorning everyone! How are you?
We're getting so close to Christmas and I couldn't be more excited! A lot of make-up brands are coming out with special Christmas make-up editions in honour of this enormous celebration.

This week I went to the store to get some beauty supplies and like always, I was very distracted by the make-up section. Both Catrice and Essence had cute collections coming out. Today we're talking about the Little X-mas Factory, which is Essence's youngest limited edition collection.

Last year I was looking all over the place for nice coloured liquid eyeliners but I didn't find anything back then. I found a couple glitter eyeliners, but I never used them after the holidays again. This one, I might use until it's actually done being used.

Packaging wise, good job! The white and gold themed packaging has got me feeling extra Christmas-y. It doesn't only draw attention, it's also a nice break from the oldschool green or red.

Here's a swatch of what the liquid eyeliner looks like. I must admit that I'm a bit surprised because this is the first "drugstore" gold eyeliner I've found that has good pigmentation.
It doesn't only look good, it also applies like a dream and stays on all night. This eyeliner sounds like a too good to be true product, but I've got to be honest, it's just a really good product. Although that shouldn't be a surprise, I've used the regular Essence eyeliner since I was about thirtheen so I knew they were good!
I've got a make-up tutorial using this eyeliner coming up soon, you might want to keep your eyes open for that!

Thanks for reading, I hope to see you soon!

Catrice "Victorian Poetry" lipstick reviews!

I may have blogged about this once or twice: I am a huge history geek. I used to like doing it in school, but it just turned out to be something I loved.
So much, that I'm now studying history in college and hoping to get my bachelor's degree somewhere next year. There are certain era's that I don't like to study, but there are a couple I want to know everything about. I have a huge fascination for Greek and Roman culture (especially the mythology interests me) and the Victorian era.

I think I addressed my passion for the Victorian era when I did my post on chokers, but many other trends of today from come that time too. Piercings for example (intimate ones, to be correct. In the Victorian era nipple piercings were wildly popular. This year, they've made a comeback!).

This being said, can you believe how excited I was when I saw that Catrice has a limited edition out now called "Victorian Poetry"?!
I checked out with both lipsticks from this limited edition in my hand and rushed home to start testing!

The roségold packaging with shiny, sophisticated detail on it is enough to make me fall in love with it.

The two colours in this limited edition are a pink lipstick called "Poetic Pink" and a darker purple one called "Berry British". Below you can see what the lipsticks look like.

Swatches!

The lipsticks have a very smooth texture and are well pigmented. They're not drying like other lipsticks can be. I'm very excited about the colours as well, I don't have any lipsticks with this specific colour. I also think that these would fit with any skincolour.
Pale? Good, they'll pop!
Coloured? Good, they'll pop!

In this picture I used both lipsticks, I used ""Poetic Pink" on upper lip and "Berry British" below! My lips are very dry by the way, that's why the darker colour looks a bit off. It doesn't have anything to do with the colour, it's just the texture of my lips right now. Can't seem to get them hydrated! Ah, winter.

Yeah, these lipsticks have got me feeling some kind of way. What do you think?

Revolution blush palette review

Goodmorning everyone! I'm back with a product that I'm crazy excited about!
Today I'm going to tell you about my ultra blush palette by Revolution. I am a huge blush fan (always have been) so when I found this palette, I could barely keep it together!

Although the packaging looks exactly thesame as all the other palettes, what's inside is absolutely stunning. This blush palette holds eight different colours. Some of them are sparkly, some of them are matt. The colours vary from peach to pink to tan, which is amazing because there's something in this palette for everyone.

Here's a closer look!

The colours are quite pigmented. I tried the second one starting from the left on the top row a couple of days ago and you have to be so so careful with these blushes because of the pigment in it. I tried the more nude shades on the left side of the palette as well and those too are very pigmented.
The blushes on the right are very shimmery and metallic so I use those as highlighters. Below you can find a picture of what I look like after a long day. The blush is still there, it has faded a little but I think it looks quite natural. Nice!

Thanks once again for reading! Have a good day!

Maybelline "Nude Embrace" lipstick review

Nude has been trending for some time now. I'm 100% for a nude look when it comes to eye make-up, but nude lipstick has never really been my thing.
I walk into a beauty store, get a nude lipstick and I will absolutely love it. But the minute I come home, I fall back out of love with it.
Nude not being your shade is absolutely okay, but stubborn as I am, I decided to give it one last chance before finally giving up.

I spent a good hour (or maybe two) at the drugstore and came home with a Maybelline lippy called "Nude Embrace". The colour doesn't look too exciting but it is a nude so it's not supposed to stand out that much.

Here's what the lipstick looks like. Below you can also find a swatch.

I like the swatch of this lipstick a lot. You can really see how pigmented it is.
After all these years I finally found a nude that I like! Below you can find a before and after picture. The lipstick applies very well and is very pigmented, however it does feel a little dry after a while. I do really like this one though, it's just a matter of moisturizing your lips before and after applying this lipstick.
I also don't like to apply too much, because that will make you look a little sick. This lipstick is also gorgeous with some lipgloss on top of it!

My favourite autumn inspired lipsticks!

Every autumn, I dig deep in my make-up collection to find darker shades of lipsticks. I have a few all time favourites and a few lipsticks I fall back in love with every year.
Of course, I also have a couple of new lipsticks every year. Today, I'm walking you through my favourites.

- Classic reds:
The perfect red never goes out of style. I wear it all year long. For this time of year, it's perfect as well. For classic reds, I have four favourites. I am a big fan of MAC's Russian Red, as well as Rimmel's "111 Kiss of Life" and my "Blake's pure red" by L'Oréal. My last red lipstick, called "Pleasure me red" by Maybelline is one of my favourites as well!

- Nudes:
I always have a very hard time finding a nude lipstick that I really like. I got a new one recently, called "Nude Embrace" by Maybelline that I'm crazy about!
Such a pretty colour! I have a review coming up on this one!

- Purple shades:
Last year, I had a bit of an obsession with purples when it came to lipsticks. I have three absolute favourites.
One of them is Catrice's Plum & Base. The other two are Rimmel's "107" and "18" by Bourjois (Rouge Edition).

- Dark Shades:
Essence's "Très Chic" and "08 MATT MATT MATT" are two of my favourites. The other favourite that I have, is MAC's "Dark Side".

Do you have any favourite lipsticks? If so, please let me know in the comments below!
I hope this gave you some inspiration for the holidays!

Have a good day! I'll see you soon!

What's in a name?

Dear Fashionista In The Dark readers,
today's update is rather short, but I want to tell you about something that's been on my mind for a rather long time now.
I want to change the name of the blog. I feel like Fashionista In The Dark doesn't really fit anymore.
The blog will probably be redirected automatocally, but I just wanted to let you know that my blog'll be called "Lynn's Lookbook" in the future. It feels more mature and more me.

Thanks for reading!

Golden Goddess highlighter review!

Highlighters have been a very big thing the last (few) year(s). Every brand seems to have one, it's really all you hear about on blogs and YouTube channels, and I can't really blame anyone.
When I was a kid, I used to watch "Charmed" on TV and I would wonder what made the girls in the show glow like that. What made them look so fresh and healthy?
As I started learning more about make-up, I was told about this thing called "highlighter"... "Oh," I thought, "so that's where the glow comes from?".

It's no secret that I'm a big higlighter lover too! About a month ago, in Madrid, I found this cute highlighter by Revolution.
It's a triple baked highlighter in a heart shape, called "Goddess of Love". A gorgeous absolutely stunning gold highlighter that's affordable too! But is it good enough to steal my heart?

The packaging is way too cute. Heart shapes are meant to win girls over rightaway. No, really, this packaging is quite cute. It might not be great for storage or travelling, but it'll take your bad mood away in the morning!
Below, you can see what the swatch looks on my hand.

I personally loved this swatch. A higlighter has be pigmented for sure, but too pigmented can look a bit stupid as well, after all, you don't want to look like a discoball.

I love the glow this highlighter gives me, without being too much or too over the top. It is exactly what it needs to be; noticable, but not ridiculous, if that makes sense.
You can see the highlighter when I turn my head, when the sun decides to show itself or when a light shines on my face. I've tried my very best to capture the gorgeousness on camera and believe I have succeeded as well.

Below you'll find a picture of what my highlighter looks like in artificial light. Pretty nice, huh?

I'm in love. Pun intended.
There are two more options available, but this one was the best one for my complexion. I'm very happy to have gotten one of these highlighters.

Are there any highlighters you'd like to recommend? Please do let me know in the comments below.
Thanks for reading and as always, I hope to see you soon!

Catrice All Round Mascara review!

Good morning everyone! How are you doing?
I'm doing quite good these days, kicking it back old school and with not too much make-up. These last weeks I have skipped make-up quite often and I must admit, I don't have any problems with it anymore. It's so refreshing to go make-up free.
Of course, I'm a beauty lover at heart and I won't try to convince you a little mascara can't do little miracles. In fact, if there was one thing I could use for the rest of my life, it'd probably be mascara.

A little really can go a long way. I do let my skin breathe more often than I did before, but a bit of mascara will always give your look a boost.
Today I'm trying Catrice's All Round black mascara - one of the cheapest ones they have, but mascara doesn't have to be expensive. Drugstore mascaras, I find, are just as good as high end mascaras.

This mascara comes in a red tube. It's nice to have a bit of colour in my collection, but other than that the packaging is quite "normal".

The brush isn't very exciting. It's got a small tip, which is good for inner and outer corners of the eyes. Other than that, it's pretty basic. I'm actually happy to see a mascara brush that doesn't look scary for once!

I wouldn't say I'm very surprised with the volume this mascara gives me. Length however, I can't complain about. I apply about two to three coats of mascara to get the best result.

Is it a good mascara? Yes, as a basic item, I do think so. I also think that if you're going to use three layers everytime you apply mascara, you might as well go for a little bit of a more expensive option and apply less layers each time, but that's personal. If you're a girl (or boy) that only applies one layer, by all means, go for it. I, personally, love some extra volume and will therefore look for a mascara with more volume.

However, for €2.99, I think we have to be fair and admit this is not a bad product at all.

Thanks for reading! I'll see you soon!

Getting ready for autumn!

Nearly three years ago I moved out of the house that I lived in with my parents and started to build up my new life in my own place.

I have always tried to stay humble and keep it simple. I don't try to impress people with materialistic stuff, because I don't need most of it, and to be honest, I don't use most of it either. I must admit that I have a lot of stuff - and everytime I move, I become aware of that.

There are only three things I spend most of my money on: food, make-up and clothes. I don't think you should ever save when it comes to food and make-up and clothing are just guilty pleasures. I must admit that during certain months I like to go all out.
This month, for example, I decided to expand my wardrobe. I got a new pair of boots, two new coats, I also picked up a lot of sweaters that were still at my parents' house...

The only thing that didn't expand, is the place I live in. When I was younger I would put my summer clothes in boxes and store them in my attic, but the building I live in now doesn't have a storage space or attic.
I am, however, quite literally cleaning out my closet. This winter too.

I recently got in touch with MakeSpace, which is a company that comes to your place to pick up and store your stuff.
You can have it picked up whenever you want and you can have it delivered back at your place just as easy. The digital world nowadays is changing a lot of things and storage is one of those. With an app, you can choose what you want to store and what you want to get back from storage, just like that. Check out their self-storage locations!

How are you getting ready for autumn and winter? Any tips or tricks to share?
