Bookreview: A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

I've been doing bookreviews for quite a while on this blog and I know not everyone loves to read and that these posts are probably not the most popular ones,
but I did notice that a lot of other book addicts like myself do like these posts. Today I wanted to do a review on the new J.K. Rowling book.
If you don't know who J.K. Rowling is, well, then you have been missing out for the last twenty years. The insanely talented woman wrote the Harry Potter series that broke many many records worldwide. And I can see why. I am very fascinated by the series and by J.K. Rowling. She's my favourite writer so I was actually very happy when I got her new book. This is not another Harry Potter book, it's actually a book for adults.

This book was $26.32 dollar which is €19.95. It took me quite a while to get it and it also took me quite a while to read it. The biggest thing that kept me from reading it was school and work. I thought that I would have a lot more time to read now it's springbreak but I actually spent most of my days at work.

Okay, so now it's time for my opinion on the book. I do have to say that this book is a lot different from the Harry Potter series. A LOT. Do I think she failed or do I think she should stick to series like the Harry Potter series? No!
The book is a lot different but it wasn't a let down for me. It's another story, another side of J.K. Rowling but most importantly it's another book that proves she is talented. Even though it's about politics - J.K. Rowling made it easy to understand.

"When Barry Fairbrother unexpectedly dies, the Pagford residents are shocked. Pagford seems an idyllic English rural village, a charming market square and an ancient abbey, but behind the beautiful façade go major hidden conflicts; rich against poor, teenagers against their parents, women against their husbands, teachers against their students ... Pagford is not what it seems. The empty chair Barry leaves behind in the city council is the reason for the biggest fight that the village has ever known. Who will triumph in this election full of opportunism, forgery and mind-boggling revelations? "
As mentioned in the summary of this book it's about the death of Barry Fairbrother, a special man in Pagford who is loved by everyone. Everyone is stunned when he dies - some because they can't believe he's gone, some because they now have a shot at the chair in the city council. It's everyone against everyone and the games are played dirty. A lot of secrets come to the surface and ruin lives. Seriously. Some juicy stuff as well. Poor, rich, young and old - everyone seems to get involved in the huge fight the death of Barry provoked. But there are people out there who actually miss him a lot as well...

I loved the book a lot, there's a lot of different situations in there, a lot of different people. People who have good intentions, people who have bad intentions, people with a lot of dark secrets or a dark past, people who are mentally sick, rapists, drugusers, people who have a reputation but are struggling and fighting to be happy without anyone even noticing. It all mealts together nicely. I could really imagine this being people who live in my city.

I really liked the story, it's so special and I just really wish some of the people from the book existed so that I could be friends with them. I can't wait for J.K. Rowling to write a new adult book!

Essence Floral Grunge mini lipgloss set review!

Hello everyone! As you all know (if you've read the post at least) I went shopping last week and I also got some mini lipglosses from the new Essence collection called "Floral Grunge". I have never tried anything like this before and I was quite excited about it!

I think the packaging looks really cute. It's a colourful pastel box and a little bit of the lipglosses are showing. The box has a magnet in it, so it's really easy to open and close, and the most important thing is that it won't go open in your purse!

The mini lipgloss set is called "Kissing me softly".

So when you open the little box, three little lipglosses appear. I think they are adorable. The first one is just a transparant, glittery one. The second one is a bit of a pale, milky colour and the last one is peach.
Great colours for spring! Nice and fresh!

In this picture I'm wearing the transparant lipgloss with the glitters in it. This is my favourite one, really basic and simple, yet nice to wear.

The next one, the really pale one made me look even more pale then I already was. This one is my least favourite, just because it really doesn't look good on me. I wish it did though.

Next is the peach colour. I do really like this one as well. Peach suits me better than pink and I just think it looks good!

The good thing about this lipgloss set is that it's not a big waste if you don't like one of the colours. Like I said, I like the second colour least but that's okay because it's just a tiny tiny lipgloss and it wasn't expensive!

In general I think this mini lipgloss set is great and I'm really glad with it!

Weekly Diary

Hi you guys! How are you all doing?
I'm writing and publishing this on a Saturday evening so that you will all see it on Sunday. I know I'm "one day early" but I have to go somewhere in the morning and I don't like to keep you guys waiting all day long.

Today I'm going to show you my weekly diary, as always. I've had two really busy weeks. Even though it's spring break, I haven't had a lot of time to do free stuff, I've been working quite a lot - for the blog as well.

Luckely for me, it hasn't been all work and no fun. I went shopping this week and got a lot of interesting items that I'm really excited about. Makeup, but also fashion and accessories that I think are adorable. Also the weather has been nice these past days so I can't wait to see what next week is going to bring.

One of my silliest, but favourite buys: anti-slip socks with dogs on top! I know it looks childish but it's so adorable! I have bear socks as well! Cosy!

I like to experiment with makeup and this week I did my first attempt at a smokey eye. My sister is playing the model here. I thought it looked quite nice. It might look a little light but the picture was also taken with flash on, so it was darker in real life.

Plotting, plotting, plotting! I'm working on a new story! I have been really busy so I haven't had much time to spend on the story, but I like where it's going and I can't wait to plot some more!

I've also been practacing my photography a little bit. This happened during the watering of my orchids. It's nice, when you save up for something and it turns out to be a great product. I love my new camera!

How was your week?
I hope you're all doing ok. See you next week!

Essence "It's popul-art" blush review!

Hi!
Earlier in my Essence beauty haul (way back in March, do you remember?) I told you about a new blush I got called "It's popul-art". It's from the Vintage District collection and it's stunning!
I have waited as long as I could to test this blush because I know the gold glitter in this blush is an overspray and it'll disappear when I touch it.

Eye candy!

So this is what the blush looks like. Gorgeous. I have never had a blush as beautiful as this. And it was really cheap which is good too!

Time to see what it looks like on my face....

This is what my face looks like without any makeup on. No foundation, no BB cream, no concealer, no moisturizer, absolutely nothing. You can see how pale I am.

And this is how my face looks after applying the blush! I think it's really beautiful actually. I look less pale and less dead. The gold overspray also gives me a glow, which I love. The blush is orange toned and for some reason orange toned looks better than pink on me.

I just wish it wasn't an overspray so that I could always have this glow. Aside from that, I'm very happy I got the blush, I think it'll still be really pretty, even if the gold is gone.
It's cute and I'll be wearing it a lot this spring. Great job Essence!

A new look for the blog!

"Woah Eva, what happened to your blog?!"

Hah, yes, I hope you said goodbye to how it used to look. Let's just say I got a little tired of it. The pink and all the bright colours, it was quite girly and it wasn't really me anymore.
I'm growing up and so is my blog!

Right now it's still quite boring but I might change a couple more things here and there when I think of something!
Do you like it?
